United Way of East Central Iowa and the Linn County Nonprofit Resource Center are excited to continue the Technology Assistance Program (TAP) for nonprofit agencies. This program matches IT professionals who volunteer their time with nonprofit organizations that seek assistance on various technology-based projects.
There are four potential areas of assistance that volunteers can provide to nonprofit organizations...
1. Computer Lab Setup or Upgrade - TAP team members will help setup or upgrade computer labs. Organizations are responsible for the hardware and software. The TAP volunteer will help setup networks, tools, software, etc.
2. Website Development and Training - TAP team members will assist in developing a website for the organizations. The organization is responsible for providing all of the content of the sites, the hosting, and the domain name. The TAP volunteer is responsible for developing the site using programs that are used in the website development training and that are available to the organization and is also responsible for training one staff member on maintaining the website.
3. Database Development - TAP team members will help organizations create databases, using Microsoft Access, for their staff, clients, etc. The TAP volunteer will also train staff members on how to use the database and customize it to meet their needs.
4. Skill and Project Development - TAP team members will create and hold training sessions for nonprofit organization employees on specific MS Office products (Word, Excel, or PowerPoint) in an off-site computer lab. The TAP team will also prepare an instruction manual for participants. Individual assistance on a specific project can also be provided.
If your organization is in need of technology assistance, please complete and submit the "2009 TAP Nonprofit Organization Application" form below and email it to katie.giorgio@gcrcf.org. Applications are received on an ongoing basis. Nonprofits will be notified when volunteers are available. Turnaround time is unknown because it depends on the supply and skills of volunteers.
If you are a volunteer interested in getting involved with this program and helping local nonprofit organizations with their technology needs, please complete the "2009 TAP Volunteer Application" form below and email it to katie.giorgio@gcrcf.org.
