HOW TO GET FEMA (Federal) ASSISTANCE

For nonprofits:

Fill out up to FOUR one-page forms, which you can download from the bottom of this page. Attach a copy of your 501 (c) 3 tax letter and your organizational charter or bylaws. Mail to:

Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division
7105 N.W. 70th Avenue, Camp Dodge
Building W-4, Johnston, IA 50131
Phone: 515-725-3231

THESE FORMS MUST BE SENT IN BY JULY 28, 2008!  The earlier an organization completes them, the quicker they’ll receive assistance.  Separately, you'll note below a list of records/other documents you should put together for later meetings with SBA and FEMA employees  (see 'Documents You Will Need', at bottom of this page.)

FEMA assistance will cover emergency work done within six months. That includes debris removal and emergency protective measures that MAY include sandbagging, mold remediation, and labor costs of any employees performing these efforts. Emergency work is covered directly by FEMA. Permanent repairs usually require additional consultation with the Small Business Adminstration. You will be assisted throughout this process by a FEMA representative "assigned" to you.  Someone from FEMA will contact organizations who apply for assistance in 3-4 weeks.  Other papers you should have on hand are noted in the 'Documents needed for FEMA/SBA' tab on this website.

KEEP ALL RECIEPTS.  DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!
